Fire prevention open house

BURTON —A fire prevention open house will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Burton Fire Department Station 2, 1320 S. Belsay Rd. The event features meet and greet with firefighters, station and truck tours, demonstrations, face painting, child ID activities, and bounce house as well as free smoke detectors and other items. A breakfast of pancakes, sausage and orange drink will also be served. — T.T.

Burton VFW Pasty Sale

BURTON — From noon to 5 p.m. daily, The Burton VFW Post 2777, 2260 S. Belsay Road, is selling beef pasties for $5 each. The price includes one beef gravy. Pasties contain beef, carrots, potatoes, onions, rutabaga and seasonings. All proceeds generated will assist veterans and their families. — T.T.

Poker nights

BURTON — Texas Hold ‘Em Poker is offered from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at Burton VFW Post 2777, 2260 S. Belsay Road.. A fish fry is held in conjunction from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The dinner includes three pieces of fish, fries and your choice of dinner salad or coleslaw for $8. Dine in or take out is available. Alternative school open house

BURTON — An open house for Atherton Virtual Academy will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 14, at 2400 Clarice Ave., in the former Vern Van Y Elementary. The academy offers all students a unique option for completing the requirements to earn their high school diplomas or GEDs. During the open house, a staff meet and greet will be held. Theatrical production

BURTON — Bentley Community Schools Theater Program will host a production of “Last Call at Chez Mort” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15, and 2:30 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16, in the Bentley Middle School cafeteria. Take a trip back in time to the 1940s where a mysterious death at a popular nightclub leads to an evening of hilarity and fun in this dinner theater, solve the mystery show! Burton Senior Dominoes

BURTON —Dominoes can be played at 12:30 p.m. every Friday at the Burton Senior Activity Center, 3410 S. Grand Traverse. The game is a long-standing favorite, and can be played by newcomers as well as long-time players, and features friendly teachers. For details, call 810-744-0960. — T.T.
