Bendle tops Atherton in battle of Burton volleyball

“We came out of the gates fast and aggressive, which is how we normally play, and took a convincing first set but Bendle settled down and played very well down the stretch and capitalized on our mistakes,” said Atherton coach Chuck Vierk. “My ladies played well tonight, but we made some mental mistakes at crucial points, which made it tough for us to come back on. Our defense did a great job tonight and I am very proud of that, but we have a lot to work on these next few practices to get ready for Morrice on Thursday and our tournament on Saturday.”

For Atherton, Laura Morgan had two kills, one solo block, five aces, five digs and 11 assists, Rachel Morales added four kills, two aces, a dig and an assist and Alexis Morgan had three kills, one ace, 15 digs and two assists. Rayona Price put up one ace and four digs, Jesse Newsom had three kills and one assist and Ana Zalvdivar had a kill.

With two kills and two solo blocks was KayLynn Chilton, Abby Newsom totaled four aces and six digs, Amanda Hambey had two digs and four assists and Ciara Lilly finished with a solo block and an assist.

Maliah Spencer put up four aces, 16 digs and a kill for Bendle. Heather Ward had two aces, two kills and 18 assists. Lillian Plamondon added three aces, 16 kills, 10 digs, a block and two assists. Morgan Willards chipped in 13 assists, an ace and a block. Sanee Williams had 12 kills, four blocks and an assist. Faith Lynn had 13 kills, three blocks and two aces. Savannah Hammit added seven kills and two digs. Kristen Waller had three digs and Morgan Gilkes had four.

BENTLEY

On Tuesday, Bentley defeated Beecher in three sets, 25-10, 25-20, 25-23. Morgan Ludwig led the Bulldogs serving 11-of- 12 with four aces, while also setting 25-of-27 with eight assists and three kills. Destiny McKee was perfect hitting the ball again, going 14-for-14 with three kills and a block. Taylor Crane went 8-of-9 serving, 13-for- 13 setting with two assists and a kill. Kilee Leonard served 12-of-12 with two aces and hit 6-for-8 with one kill. Addison LeTourneau hit 7-of-10 with three kills and also served 10-of-11 with three aces and three digs.

The Bulldogs competed in a tri-meet on Thursday, losing to Durand and Byron, but defeating Genesee.

Bentley lost to Durand 22-25, 16-25. Makayla LeTourneu went 8-for- 9 serving with one ace. Addison LeTourneau led the attack with eight digs and four kills. Taylor Crane went 14-of-15 setting the ball with six assists.

Bentley was then defeated by Byron, 19-25, 16-25. Destiny McKee stood out going 5-for-5 hitting with two blocks.

The Bulldogs bounced back in the final match of the evening dominating Genessee, 25-17, 25-13. Ludwig went 15-of-16 setting to lead Bentley. Addison LeTourneau went 12-of-14 with four kills. McKee went 8-for-8 hitting, including three kills. Kesington Allison finished the match 9-for- 11 serving with three aces. Crane served 7-for-8 with five aces, while also going 14-of-15 setting with three assists. — J.O.

KEARSLEY

The Hornets lost to Clio 25-11, 25-15, 25-18, last Thursday. The Hornets were led by Katie Lewis, who had five digs, five kills and four assists. Mackenzie Ramey had three digs, three kills and one block. Same Roberts had two digs and two blocks. Kamryn Palka contributed three blocks and a kill. Lindsay Flynn also had eight digs.

The Hornets also lost to Fenton on Tuesday night 25-7, 25-13, 25-10. No stats were available as we went to press. — J.O.
