Recycling seminar

BURTON — The Burton Senior Activity Center offers a free recycling seminar at 11 a.m. August 16. Recycling is a wonderful way to help our environment and ensure the sustainability of our surroundings for generations to come. The Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission will be at the Burton Senior Center to discuss the many ways to easily recycle in Genesee County, including hazardous waste. Walking program

BURTON — Every morning Monday-Friday at 9 a.m. the Burton Senior Activity Center 2018 Walking Program takes place. Those interested should first register for the walking program at the Burton Senior Activity Center and then start walking! Walks will start at the center and may include walking to other places. There is a chart up at the center to mark progress. This year program participants are walking the equivalent miles as walking to the Smoky Mountains and have plenty of goals with much less distance, too! The important part is to get and keep moving! Church picnic

BURTON — Calvert Park Community Church of God welcomes the community to its annual church picnic at 10:30 a.m. August 19, at 2341 N. Genesee Road. This will be a potluck picnic, with kids’ games, food and fun! The church supplies the sloppy joes and drinks. Details: Call 810-743-7777. — T.T.

Solid Rock Community Church

BURTON — Solid Rock Community Church, at 2222 South Belsay Road, offers ongoing, free biblical counseling for marriages, relationships, parenting, sexual issues/ sexuality, depression, anxiety or addiction. Flint Electronic Music and Art Festival

FLINT — Free to all, the 7th annual Drop Fest will be held Aug. 11 from 12-10 p.m. Features live musical performances by the hottest DJ’s in the midwest, live art by some of the gnarliest visual artists on the planet and tons of amazing craft/product/food vendors.
